If I’m Honest…

Imposter Syndrome Is Something I Still Struggle With.

When I first picked up a camera back in April, I never imagined I’d be standing pitchside at National League preseason matches. Even now, there are days when I look around and wonder if I belong there. I compare myself to photographers with years of experience, question whether my photos are good enough, and overthink every shot and every edit.

The truth is, those thoughts don’t disappear. I’ve just learned not to let them stop me anymore.

A quote from Josh Sommerton’s The Power of Doing It Scared really stuck with me:

“Your comfort zone feels safe, but it keeps you stuck. Real progress lives where things feel uncomfortable.”

That couldn’t be more true.

Every opportunity I’ve had has come from doing something that felt uncomfortable. Applying for media accreditation. Sending that first email. Speaking to the media team at Salisbury. Walking into a stadium where I didn’t know anyone. Social media. None of it felt easy, but every single step has helped me grow, not just as a photographer, but as a person. That’s not something I ever expected back in April.

I’m still learning. I still make mistakes. I still have matches where I come home wishing I’d done something differently. But that’s all part of the journey, and I’m learning to be okay with that too.

I’m also incredibly lucky to have people around me who continue to encourage me, support me, and remind me how far I’ve come when I struggle to see it myself. Having people who believe in you makes more of a difference than they’ll probably ever realise.

If you’re reading this and you’re putting something off because you don’t feel ready, this is your reminder that you don’t have to be. Whether it’s photography or something completely different, you’ll never know what you’re capable of if you wait until you feel confident.

Start anyway.

One day you’ll look back and realise that the moments that scared you the most were the ones that changed everything.

I’m still a beginner. I’m still learning. And that’s okay, because every match, every photo, and every opportunity is another step forward.

Thank you to everyone who’s supported me so far. I genuinely appreciate every message, every share, every comment, and every opportunity.

Here’s to continuing to do it scared.
